Most of these, however, have no direct interest or preparation in regards to nuclear survival. At the bottom of this page is a Directory of our contacts in Ohio. Many of the local entries for states were listed because of their Y2K concerns and may not have any nuclear concerns.

A CHURCH based community.
Churches have a unique opportunity to prepare for Y2K.
They are ALREADY communities of people of KNOWN qualities.
A church can do things like organize around a rural member,
who already has a farm and who knows agriculture.

It hit that without divulging any information about your exact whereabouts, it might be nice to know if there are any of you within say 100 -200 miles of Cincinnati, Ohio. Our family and church family would love all the support, fellowship, and sharing of ideas and resources that we could get within our area.
We are looking to start a regional support group where we could perhaps be able to do some co-op type buying of supplies and get some contingency plans together.
Anyone in the area please respond to: JwalkerRMc@aol.com

The new Carpenter Village, in scenic, rural southeast Ohio, near the university town of Atherns, is a simpler living, appropriate technology-oriented community for more independent liveing/working and voluntary cooperation. 12 private 3+ acre tracts and 10 acres of commonland will be available.
While we hope to attract people with varied work interests, we especially seek those with alternate energy shelter and food production skills who would like to work part-time in AT/basic skillls educational ourtreach.
Pre-community weekends will focus on getting acquainted, brainstorming, organizing 'shared work interest groups' and seeing the community land. This is a human-scale, ecologically-sensitive, participatory, self-managed lifestyle that seeks to resist spectacles, voyeurism and consumerism-in other words, life and people as objects-, but rather recognizes people as vibrant, changing subjects whose freedom, creativity, spontaneity, expression and full development is paramount.
Inquiries from co-ops which value a community of
democratic participation are most welcome. Write for information
and work skills/goals questionnaires.

The Hokshichankiya Community has much to offer. It is the home of the Hokshichankiya Society, the Hokshichankiya Clan of the Free Cherokees,The Trading Post, and it is the offices of The Northeast Central Region of the Free Cherokees, as well as the home of two Internationally distributed newsletters, The Sacred Seed & The New Phoenix.
The Hokshichankiya Community, is located in Vinton County, in the Hocking Hills Scenic Area of Southeastern Ohio. We are on the edge of Wayne National Forest, a short drive from Zaleski State Forest, Lake Hope State Park, Lake Logan, Lake Rupert, and other points of interest. We are an hour and fifteen minutes from Columbus, the State Capital.
Many Indian trails passed through this area. This was a cross road for tribes traveling South from the Great Lakes to the salt licks near Jackson and hunting grounds in Kentucky -- and east from Cincinnati, to the Ohio River and hunting grounds in West Virginia. Many camps were made in the area, now known as Old Man's Cave, Ash Cave, and Cedar Falls. Tribes came together here for seasonal gatherings. It was also the home for other tribal groups including the so called Mound Builders of antiquity. The town of Creola, three miles South of the Farm, is located on the site of an old Indian Village. This is the beautiful hill country between the flat lands lying to the West and North, and the mountains of the East and South.
We are blessed with 106 beautiful acres of Mother Earth. We have ponds, intermittent streams, a creek, bottom land, secluded meadows, wooded hills, and our own Burial Grounds. We have a wide range of wild life including Deer, Wild Turkey, Raccoons, Ground Hogs, Hawks, and the occasional Bald Eagle, Wild Cat or Black Bear may be seen.
Hokshichankiya Farm is home for a Buffalo herd, a dairy Goat herd, a Horse, (Tecumseh), pigs, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, a German Shepherd named Misun, a hybrid-wolf named Waya, and Chief SunHawk's adopted full blood wolf daughter named "Sung Manitu Tanka" whom we affectionatly call Sunka
The Hokshichankiya Trading Post
Is our retail store, (mostly mail order at this time), here we feature Native American Art & Crafts, craft supplies, primitive gear & clothing, tipis & primitive tenting, herbs, natural and organically grown tobacco, muzzle loading gun supplies, and more. We believe that by having a place to feature our work and that of others in the Native American community, we will be able to provide a source of income for native artisans and the work of this community. We believe the farm community provides an educational opportunity for all who live, work, and visit in our area.
Bison, commonly known as "Buffalo", is about the best meat available on the market today for those who must watch their fat and cholesterol intake. It is lower in these than chicken, or turkey.
Hokshichankiya Farm, more than anything else, is a place set aside for the People
Here at the farm you can come and leave behind the stress and pollution of city life, while you take a quiet walk in the woods. We also provide the opportunity to learn through work shops and other activities.
The Farm Community is a place you may come to visit or possibly to live if you feel drawn to the Amerindian way of life.
Hokshichankiya is a place for Spiritual growth and Sacred ceremony. The Sacred Pipe and Sweat Lodge are the center of our spiritual lives. Our community holds Sweat Lodge and/or Pipe ceremony approximately twice a month year round. The women also have their private Lodge and ceremonies. In addition we celebrate other seasonal events, and as is traditional, all ceremonies include community feasts.
We look forward to continued growth as a tribal family where people can come to visit and learn to live their lives in balance with each other, the Great Spirit and our Earth Mother. We share in a tribal family where we can live our lives in a Sacred Way, working to provide a future for our children and their children to the Seventh Generation and beyond. We have a large extended family of those who are unable to live here. We believe we will grow as a center where people may come to learn. We know our future is limited only by the imagination, dedication, and desire of those who make up our community and those who will yet become a part of all we do.
In addition we serve our community by providing temporary housing and emergency supplies of food and clothing to many people regardless of their spiritual path or racial heritage. We are also proud that we have just received a $500 grant from the "317 Board" which is the Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services Board serving Athens, Vinton, and Hocking Counties of Ohio, for the further education and assistance of the people in our community.
We are seeking those who would join us in the work we are doing, those with the talents, skills, and dedication necessary to make the vision of Hokshichankiya a continuing reality. We know there are many who share our dreams, and that among them, there are those who will join with us. Perhaps you are just such a person.
The Farm Community is a place you may come to visit or
possibly to live if you feel drawn to the Amerindian way of life.

We are a Christian group from different churches. We have a good mix of skilled people, about 60, that are helping each other prepare to minister through the upcoming challenges. Our homes are located throughout most of the greater Cincinnati-northern Kentucky area. We have found most of the needed items locally, eliminating the need for long waits for items to be delivered. All are welcome.

I live near Cincinnati. I am prepared for a 7 on Webster's scale but expect a 5-6 and hope for 4. I believe the official Y2K status stated by CINergy, local power company, is as accurate as they state - I have been to local CINergy Y2K seminar and contacted three friends working at CINergy in various positions, so I am confident that I should have power locally - that is unless CINergy is forced to try to energize the grid without adequate controls which may result in physical damage to their equipment - CINergy said 12/31/1998 demand was 3000 megawatts and they will have 11,000 megawatts on line and 500 staff at all stations on 12/31/1999. So even if grid failure damages 1 or 2 of their plants they still should be able to serve local demand in winter with remaining capacity at other three plants - (summer ???). I do believe Y2K will hit some regions harder than others and hope to be in position to aid those hardest hit as I expect the Cincinnati area to be in a relatively stronger position.
I support Ohio Emergency Management Agency efforts to avert a Y2K panic and
to avoid food runs, cash runs, etc. I am working with Lutheran Disaster
Relief; Volunteers Active In Disaster and Red Cross in local disaster
preparedness not only for Y2K but also floods, fires, tornado, etc. I am
coordinating the establishment of a Red Cross shelter at my local church. I
have a stash of MREs to hand out to local neighbors if needed.
