Nuclear Survival in
Ohio

This is the nuclear target map for Ohio, but remember, fallout can go anywhere or everywhere (and probably will). After you have looked at this map look at the Information for Ohio that follows it.

Nuclear Weapon Target Map for Ohio (FEMA-196/September 1990)Ohio targets

UPDATE to Target Information!!!

Information for Ohio

This link will take you back to the Index of all the States

It is recommended that you go through the following 10 steps in studying about the nuclear threat to Ohio.

1. Look at the State Map above to see the target nuclear areas in Ohio.

2. Look at the general expected fallout map to see where Ohio
(according to the prevailing wind pattern)
gets fallout from other states.

3. If the state that you live in is anywhere EAST of any of the following 6 states in the prevailing wind pattern then look at the states in RED on the INDEX of STATES for

  • Montana
  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota
  • Nebraska
  • Missouri
  • Colorado

  • These six states contain what is called DENSE PACK which I explain on each of those states pages. UNDERSTAND that the wind pattern COULD at that time be something other than the "prevailing" wind pattern.

    4. Bookmark the present URL or make a copy of this present address so that you can come back to it after going to

    Blast Mapper.

This mapper is on someone else's web site so that you will need to save this address in order to return here if your back button doesn't work. However, you want to be sure to go the mapper site and calculate the damage to probable targets (cities) around you.

    5. Memorize the THREE top rules for survival. They are:

  • Number One - Get out of the cities!

  • Number Two - Get out of the cities!

  • Number Three - Get out of the cities!

  • 6. The follow-on rules are:
  • a. Have a shelter
  • b. Work with a group (you are going to need the manpower, brainpower, and skillpower).
  • c. Stock supplies.

    7. My Survival Web Page contains links to lots of other information such as free books to download about nuclear survival, links to plans for building shelters, and even free consultation about building a shelter.

    8. If you are SUPER concerned about nuclear survival you might consider joining the

    Ark Two Community.

    9. If you like, you can look at our Honor List for groups that we know of that have an existing rural location. Most of these, however, have no direct interest or preparation in regards to nuclear survival. At the bottom of this page is a Directory of our contacts in Ohio. Many of the local entries for states were listed because of their Y2K concerns and may not have any nuclear concerns.

    10. And finally, if you wish to be on the mailing list for my irregular newsletter in which I analyze current events in regards to the nuclear threat, you can sign-up here:

    Cincinnati, Ohio

It hit that without divulging any information about your exact whereabouts, it might be nice to know if there are any of you within say 100 -200 miles of Cincinnati, Ohio. Our family and church family would love all the support, fellowship, and sharing of ideas and resources that we could get within our area.

We are looking to start a regional support group where we could perhaps be able to do some co-op type buying of supplies and get some contingency plans together.

Anyone in the area please respond to: JwalkerRMc@aol.com

    250. Hokshichankiya Community

    Hokshichankiya Community

The Hokshichankiya Community has much to offer. It is the home of the Hokshichankiya Society, the Hokshichankiya Clan of the Free Cherokees,The Trading Post, and it is the offices of The Northeast Central Region of the Free Cherokees, as well as the home of two Internationally distributed newsletters, The Sacred Seed & The New Phoenix.

The Hokshichankiya Community, is located in Vinton County, in the Hocking Hills Scenic Area of Southeastern Ohio. We are on the edge of Wayne National Forest, a short drive from Zaleski State Forest, Lake Hope State Park, Lake Logan, Lake Rupert, and other points of interest. We are an hour and fifteen minutes from Columbus, the State Capital.

Many Indian trails passed through this area. This was a cross road for tribes traveling South from the Great Lakes to the salt licks near Jackson and hunting grounds in Kentucky -- and east from Cincinnati, to the Ohio River and hunting grounds in West Virginia. Many camps were made in the area, now known as Old Man's Cave, Ash Cave, and Cedar Falls. Tribes came together here for seasonal gatherings. It was also the home for other tribal groups including the so called Mound Builders of antiquity. The town of Creola, three miles South of the Farm, is located on the site of an old Indian Village. This is the beautiful hill country between the flat lands lying to the West and North, and the mountains of the East and South.

We are blessed with 106 beautiful acres of Mother Earth. We have ponds, intermittent streams, a creek, bottom land, secluded meadows, wooded hills, and our own Burial Grounds. We have a wide range of wild life including Deer, Wild Turkey, Raccoons, Ground Hogs, Hawks, and the occasional Bald Eagle, Wild Cat or Black Bear may be seen.

Hokshichankiya Farm is home for a Buffalo herd, a dairy Goat herd, a Horse, (Tecumseh), pigs, chickens, turkeys, rabbits, a German Shepherd named Misun, a hybrid-wolf named Waya, and Chief SunHawk's adopted full blood wolf daughter named "Sung Manitu Tanka" whom we affectionatly call Sunka

    The Hokshichankiya Trading Post

Is our retail store, (mostly mail order at this time), here we feature Native American Art & Crafts, craft supplies, primitive gear & clothing, tipis & primitive tenting, herbs, natural and organically grown tobacco, muzzle loading gun supplies, and more. We believe that by having a place to feature our work and that of others in the Native American community, we will be able to provide a source of income for native artisans and the work of this community. We believe the farm community provides an educational opportunity for all who live, work, and visit in our area.

Bison, commonly known as "Buffalo", is about the best meat available on the market today for those who must watch their fat and cholesterol intake. It is lower in these than chicken, or turkey.

Hokshichankiya Farm, more than anything else, is a place set aside for the People

Here at the farm you can come and leave behind the stress and pollution of city life, while you take a quiet walk in the woods. We also provide the opportunity to learn through work shops and other activities.

The Farm Community is a place you may come to visit or possibly to live if you feel drawn to the Amerindian way of life.

Hokshichankiya is a place for Spiritual growth and Sacred ceremony. The Sacred Pipe and Sweat Lodge are the center of our spiritual lives. Our community holds Sweat Lodge and/or Pipe ceremony approximately twice a month year round. The women also have their private Lodge and ceremonies. In addition we celebrate other seasonal events, and as is traditional, all ceremonies include community feasts.

We look forward to continued growth as a tribal family where people can come to visit and learn to live their lives in balance with each other, the Great Spirit and our Earth Mother. We share in a tribal family where we can live our lives in a Sacred Way, working to provide a future for our children and their children to the Seventh Generation and beyond. We have a large extended family of those who are unable to live here. We believe we will grow as a center where people may come to learn. We know our future is limited only by the imagination, dedication, and desire of those who make up our community and those who will yet become a part of all we do.

In addition we serve our community by providing temporary housing and emergency supplies of food and clothing to many people regardless of their spiritual path or racial heritage. We are also proud that we have just received a $500 grant from the "317 Board" which is the Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services Board serving Athens, Vinton, and Hocking Counties of Ohio, for the further education and assistance of the people in our community.

We are seeking those who would join us in the work we are doing, those with the talents, skills, and dedication necessary to make the vision of Hokshichankiya a continuing reality. We know there are many who share our dreams, and that among them, there are those who will join with us. Perhaps you are just such a person.

  • 1. To unite together as One Tribal Family - to work together, to support each other for our common growth, development, and survival.

  • 2. To build and develop our Community in such a way as to co-exist with the dominant society, without sacrificing our individual and communal beliefs, and our chosen way of life.

  • 3. To encourage and work toward a self-sufficient Community through the development of a farming economy (crops and livestock), supplemented by any practical kind of economic development programs that are in harmony with our objectives and which may be operated on an individual or communal basis.

  • 4. To pool our various resources for the good of all.

  • 5. To channel all profits from our Community's endeavors back into our community, storing excess goods for the security, benefit, and needs of our Community.

  • 6. To avoid the monetary, materialistic concepts of success.

  • 7. To live as simply as possible, in harmony with each other and Nature - to practice ecology and conservation - to never exploit our fellow man, our Mother Earth, or our animal and plant Brothers and Sisters.

  • 9. To respect our Ancestors, Elders, Teachers and each other in all ways.

  • 10. To hold classes for teaching and training on all phases of life: Spiritual, cultural, male/female, child care, health, fitness, ecology, farming, cooking, survival skills, etc.

  • 11. To help each person in our Community find their place -- looking for their special skills and talents -- and assisting them in developing their abilities and resources for the good of all.

  • 12. To instill in each member a sense of self-worth, security, and belonging. To help each member contribute to the Community according to their ability.

  • 13. To encourage our young people in positive growth - to help them develop their talents - to provide a means for their education, to provide the best resources possible to meet their individual learning requirements.
  • 14. To support our elderly and those who are ill.

  • 15. To help and assist all our relations, especially our brothers and sisters in the Hokshichankiya Community, who need emergency assistance or seek our help in any other way - to willingly give them our support; emotionally, physically, and financially, as we are able.

  • 16. To support our Chiefs and Community Council - to participate in discussions on all issues concerning the well-being of our Community, our members or the condition of land holdings, enterprises, businesses, or other activities in which the Community is involved.

    289. Ohio (Cincinnati and Kentucky)

We are a Christian group from different churches. We have a good mix of skilled people, about 60, that are helping each other prepare to minister through the upcoming challenges. Our homes are located throughout most of the greater Cincinnati-northern Kentucky area. We have found most of the needed items locally, eliminating the need for long waits for items to be delivered. All are welcome.

    355. Cincinnati, Ohio

I live near Cincinnati. I am prepared for a 7 on Webster's scale but expect a 5-6 and hope for 4. I believe the official Y2K status stated by CINergy, local power company, is as accurate as they state - I have been to local CINergy Y2K seminar and contacted three friends working at CINergy in various positions, so I am confident that I should have power locally - that is unless CINergy is forced to try to energize the grid without adequate controls which may result in physical damage to their equipment - CINergy said 12/31/1998 demand was 3000 megawatts and they will have 11,000 megawatts on line and 500 staff at all stations on 12/31/1999. So even if grid failure damages 1 or 2 of their plants they still should be able to serve local demand in winter with remaining capacity at other three plants - (summer ???). I do believe Y2K will hit some regions harder than others and hope to be in position to aid those hardest hit as I expect the Cincinnati area to be in a relatively stronger position.

I support Ohio Emergency Management Agency efforts to avert a Y2K panic and to avoid food runs, cash runs, etc. I am working with Lutheran Disaster Relief; Volunteers Active In Disaster and Red Cross in local disaster preparedness not only for Y2K but also floods, fires, tornado, etc. I am coordinating the establishment of a Red Cross shelter at my local church. I have a stash of MREs to hand out to local neighbors if needed.
